Hunger Relief - The Empty Bowl Project with The Brooklyn Potters

“We want to stamp out hunger one bite at a time,” says Ragnar Naess of the Brooklyn Potters group.
For 15 years ceramic artists have supported The Brooklyn version of the International Empty Bowls Project which raises consciousness about hunger in Brooklyn and helps feed neighbors in need by offering hand made bowls to persons contributing to CHIPS, Christian Help in Park Slope. CHIPS is a non-sectarian volunteer organization which serves the poor and homeless in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
The 15th anniversary celebration will take place on Saturday, November 12 from 2-8 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church at 263A Seventh Street in Park Slope near 7th Avenue Saturday Nov. 12th.
All are invited to join the group for an afternoon of music, poetry, storytelling and more. The 75 Brooklyn Potters Group members, as well as potters from around the city, have donated a new collection of hand- made bowls for Chips at the celebration event November 12th.
“You can support CHIPS with your donation of $25. per bowl and get a jump on your holiday shopping with these beautiful bowls,” Naess adds. “Chips is especially in need of funds at this fall. On September 23rd the building next to theirs burned and Chips’ entire building at 200 Fourth Avenue sustained major damage . Homeless peri-natal women were moved elsewhere and CHIPS has been reduced to serving bag lunches till kitchens and dormitory get all new mechanicals and new walls. ”
